The Greater Los Angeles chapters of ARMA and ALA have come together to bring you an invigorating panel discussion on email management in law firms!

A team of law firm experts from the Records, IT, and Consulting world will discuss some of the key questions and concerns surrounding managing emails. They will share their experiences and provide tips and ideas on how to better manage email in your law firm.

  • Ideas and trends on where and how to classify emails. What if you don't have a DMS?
  • Tips on how to get attorneys and staff to comply with classifying emails.
  • The evolving landscape of Data Security and Outside Counsel Guidelines.
  • What about archiving?
  • Is the "auto delete" process helping or hindering proper email management?
  • Emails and the Departing Attorney or Matter Releases
  • Email and Retention/Destruction

Moderator 

Diane Gates, Global Records Manager, Latham & Watkins

Diane has 35 years of experience working in law firms, including many aspects of information management, such as records, docket, library research, and cataloging. As Global Records Manager at Latham & Watkins LLP, she has managed software conversions and upgrades, data cleanup projects, and has been part of the transition to extending records to be part of a larger Information Governance team in the Technology Department.

Ali Shahidi, Chief Innovation Officer, Sheppard & Mullin

Ali has over 20 year’s experience in the legal industry at firms of various sizes overseeing knowledge management, application development, and practice innovation.  Ali and his team design, develop and implement tools that facilitate teamwork and efficient delivery of legal services to the firm’s clients.

Edgar McDaniel, Regional Records Manager, West Coast Sidley & Austin

Edgar has been a part of the Legal Records Management industry for over 32 years.  He has experienced, first hand, the shift from paper based file management to a more electronic concept of information organization.  Edgar’s approach has been to understand how lawyers and staff work with information and provide solutions that “educate” users on best practices instead of just “teaching” them specific procedures. 

Greg Weigel, Director, Phoenix Business Solutions  

Greg is currently Director of Phoenix Business Solutions and founder of Revolution Software (originally W Venture, LLC).  Greg is an innovative leader in development of email,  professional business automation, content management, and electronic records applications.  He is an industry veteran with more than 20 years of and technical expertise.  Greg is member of ARMA International (Former President and 6+ year board member of the Golden Gate Chapter). Greg holds a BA in Administration and has completed post graduate education in finance, technology and entrepreneurship.

Michael Kemps, CEO, Innovative Computing Solutions

Michael Kemps is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Innovative Computing Systems, Inc., where he cultivates relationships with clients and partners and, with his management team, provides leadership, strategic and ethical direction and oversight of company operations. He founded the company in 1989 after developing relationships with several law firms that eventually became early clients.
